Cloudy Bay wurde 1985 von David Hohnen und Kevin Judd im Wairau Valley in Marlborough gegründet und gehört heute über Veuve Clicquot zur LVMH-Gruppe. Das Weingut ist Gründungsmitglied von Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand; die Vineyards in Central Otago werden biologisch bewirtschaftet, während in Marlborough ausgewählte Parzellen Bioanbau erproben.
